A Ticket To Nostalgia

Hello!

Tonight, I just want to share with you a personal experience. We often remember an occasion or an experience when it is paired with something that involves our senses. For others, like people in relationships, the girl may remember the first moments together with her guy based from the scent or perfume she or he’s wearing. Some may even remember their first salary day with the sweet taste of cake as a reward. There are a lot of events that can be associated with the senses…and if you’ll ask me, I often associate memories with songs.

The first time I went out of town was when I was in first year college for an international study tour. Our destination for the trip was Singapore so the plane ride isn’t that long and we stayed there for almost a week, visiting tourist spots, universities, media agencies, dine in a Korean, Thai, Mongolian, Malaysian and Chinese restaurant and just basically immersing ourselves with the culture.

I must admit, the place is truly beautiful. It looks so urban, progressive yet culturally-sensitive. Since I am used to our setting here in the Philippines, I was amazed with how clean the place was, how there is a smooth-flow of vehicles, how hawker food actually looks clean and delicious and how everything is just different and I guess better than ours. Of course, I know that Singapore is a first-world country but what I mean is I wish that someday, our country can keep up and progress like Singapore.

Another thing is, the only TV station we watch in Singapore is MTV Asia. We’re outdoors for the entire time so we don’t really had much energy left to watch a couple of series or news so we stick to MTV to provide us with the background music. Interestingly, there are songs that were constantly shown for days or should I say, during our entire stay at the country.

We listened to the songs everyday that when I came back here in the Philippines, the first thing I did when I got back home was I searched and downloaded the songs. Though some songs are in Chinese text or Pinyin, I was able to find it thanks to my extensive research skills. Hahaha. So this is a four song playlist that reminds me of my wonderful experience in Singapore. And honestly, I may sound exaggerating, but hearing these songs truly makes me close my eyes and remember the tall and beautiful architecture of the city, the food, the people and more especially, the entire place itself:

My SG Playlist

Adore You – Miley Cyrus (My most favorite Miley song. I’m not really a fan or her music or her style, but this one is an exception because of the vibe and the lyrics. Moreover, I remember the city nightscape whenever I listen to this song.)

Just Love - Zhang Jie (Jason Zhang --- a very famous singer in China. His other songs are beautiful as well and his voice sounds so mellow and fluid. I became a fan after hearing this song from him. He’s like the featured artist of the month that’s why his song is all over MTV.)

Parachutes - Wang Q. Xin (This is the most difficult song to find. I even braved to try Yinyuetai just to find this one. I seriously didn’t stop until I got it…It was worth it because hearing this song makes me want to tear up just by remembering the good old memories.)

143 – Henry Lau (Although I know this song even before the trip [I am a kpop fan, that’s why], I literally jumped on my bed when the video played on TV. As a fan of Henry Lau even from the start of his Super Junior-M career, I felt proud that he was able to be successful with his solo effort. I’m so proud of my Mochi.)

With this idea in mind, I would like to create a video blog or conceptualize a music video about travelling. For example, I would like to direct a music video that has the concept of backpacking all throughout the entire running time.

Let’s say that the POV will be from the audience or the first person on the video and the only thing to be seen is his surroundings, which is landmarks of famous countries, and his sneakers on the ground, while walking or running. There will also be faces of the locals looking at him strangely and some are looking at him with smile on their faces. The first scene of the video will be him outside of his house and the next scenes will be him at different countries. The color of the video will be in monochrome until the last scene appears. The last scene will slowly have color and it will show him going back to his house. Basically, this concept means that you cannot run or hide from what you truly feel inside. You may seek solitude but the real peace will be when one knows the essence of his soul.

So there, I know this post is kinda long but I hope it didn’t put your time to waste. Hehe.

Thank you so much for reading and see you!
