CONCERT!

Hello!

This post will be a short one because I haven’t generated much ideas this week because of other stuff. In all honestly, I’m losing focus because of our thesis topic approval and an Economic research paper (yes, they are separate research papers!) but I’ll give the best I can to produce ideas for this blog.

Since our class is tasked on writing a feature article, I’d like to write about the upcoming ONE OK ROCK CONCERT here in Manila. ONE OK ROCK is a Japanese band that just recently signed a music label contract with Warner Bros. US! For Anime fans or film buffs who already watched the Rurouni Kenshin live-action films and watched until the credit parts, then you’ve definitely heard some of their songs because ONE OK ROCK sang the theme song for the three films (The Beginning, Mighty Long Fall and Heartache). Since I’ll be attending the concert (YAAAAY!), I’d like to write a feature article about their FIRST CONCERT here in Manila and how fans reacted to it (I’d like to interview my fellow fans so I can interact and make friends with them).

or if not, then I'd like to write an article about the Korean chicken restaurant here in Dasmarinas, Cavite. The store is named Yaddlie Chicken and they are located in SM Dasmarinas. Although there are many Korean restaurants and eventually, fast food chains here in the country, I'd like to feature Yaddlie because apart from the fact that it uses a Korean personality who is discovered locally (Korean restaurants usually have Korean celebrities as their endorses, in Yaddlie, they have someone from a segment in Eat Bulaga) and they may seem to have only one branch here in the Philippines (as far as I saw from their FB page). With this, I'd like to do a feature article about them to help boost their popularity as their food is good and affordable. Actually, my brother's fave store in SM is Yaddlie and he's such a picky eater.

2016!

Hello!

First of all, may we all experience happiness, prosperity, love and a good health this 2016!

To be honest, since it is holiday season, I cannot really think up of any idea because I’m pre-occupied with holiday stuff such as family get-togethers, noche buena and etc. In addition, I am also loaded with case studies, thesis introduction writing and video tutorial.

Anyway, since I don’t really have a particular story or idea to share right now, I will just share to you the anime/manga that I’ve been watching/reading these past few days!

Honestly, there are times when I take a step back and think about writing my own manga or even serializing an anime. I know it’s kinda impossible because we don’t have that kind of industry here in the country. But, what if I’m a manga artist? In Manga, you are not limited to fact. You can go for fiction and even in a higher level of it! There are also times when I wish I wrote or thought of the Mangas I read. I keep asking myself “how do they do that?” since it’s really hard to put up a story that will last for a long period of time. With that, I definitely salute all the writers and the Mangakas with the skill and talent they have and I wish I can be one too someday!!!

Back to the topic, here’s the manga/anime that keeps me busy right now:

GINTAMA

Set in Edo wherein the Samurais are looked down because of the invasion of the aliens called Amanto, Sakata Gintoki, a Samurai who once fought during the Amanto War works in Yorozuya with Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura, an alien from one of the strongest clans. Together, they accept and do odd jobs, neglect paying their rent and following their own “bushido” to protect what they love. (I made my own description for it. hehe) 

Honestly, this is a comedy anime/manga and mostly a parody of other animes/mangas.

What I liked about Gintama is how the good values are still incorporated with each story.

And I must admit, it was hilariously funny whether I watch or read it! I don’t know what’s with the creator but its puns, sometimes nonsense and deadpan jokes and plots are really funny that I can watch it the whole day and never get enough of it. 

In addition, the characters and their names are somehow inspired of either folktales or real-life people. Personally, I cannot pick which is my most favorite character because they are all funny and lovable in their own way. All of them are with crack personalities anyway…even the Shinsengumi guys are so funny, no one’s an antagonist for me. (Did I mention that Elizabeth is a cutie? Hehe and to be honest, my crush would be Hijikata…although he’s a chain smoker and has an excessive love for mayonnaise)

ANIME-TED

Hello everyone!

Happy New Year!

And since this is the start of 2016, I would like to post my idea about a documentary that I would like to do if I ever got the chance to do so.

This documentary is about the life of an Otaku --- someone who has a deep interest in Japanese pop culture (especially Anime). This interests me so much because they have adapted their interests into their lifestyle---thus there are some elements to them that are not similar with other types of subcultures or lifestyle.

I also want to focus on how they started being a fan, what made them to be a fan, when was the time they started incorporating this interest in their lifestyle and what are they getting from it (advantages, disadvantages). I would also like to see their social circle, the interaction happening between them and how they behave outside their circle. If lucky, I would like to accompany them in a cosplay event or any gatherings to see other fellow 

Otakus. In addition, I’ll also get the perspective of experts about the topic.

This documentary aims to give an opportunity for these fans to be heard and understood especially by critics. In all honesty, liking Anime at an age when you’re no longer a kid is sometimes looked upon as childish and immature. Moreover, having a vast information about the culture sometimes labels them as weirdos, geeks and etc.

I would like to do a documentary that will let the audiences especially the critics to see that this lifestyle is a preference but not a way to destruct their future. These fans are fans for some reasons and treating them equal should be kept in mind. I would like this documentary to uplift the morale of those who are in fandoms and those who are just following their love and passion in life.

Iskolar (The Scholar)

Hello, another idea post for today! 

This is for a short-film about a girl planning take up a college entrance exam at her dream university. 

Iskolar (The Scholar)

Characters:

Roselle – a fourth year private school student from a middle-class family. She is ambitious, goal-oriented, smart and idealistic. Despite the privilege of being enrolled in a private school, she feels that her school is not competitive enough and that she’ll learn more if she studied in a public science high school. Moreover, her parents’ income is not enough for her to enroll in the top admired private universities in the country. With this in mind, she plans to go to an esteemed university---UP.

Stella - Roselle’s mother – she is a thirty eight year old housewife and a brand direct seller. She’s aware of how driven her daughter is when it comes to education and worries on how they can manage to send her off to college but her soft-spoken approach cannot compete with her daughter’s sharp conviction. With her small earnings and moral support to give, Stella stands by her daughter's side in achieving her dream to become a scholar.

Rodin – Roselle’s father – an employee at an accounting firm, he is a forty year old accountancy graduate who never got the chance to take the CPA exam because of lack of financial resources. This personal frustration led him to fully support Roselle in achieving her dream, also a dream he failed to put into reality. Moreover, his salary is not enough for them to send Roselle into the top universities. For him, Roselle’s hurdle is not her battle alone, but the battle of their family.

Story:

Every high school student dreams of entering a prestigious university and for Roselle, aiming for the best is nonetheless her goal. 

A truly ambitious person, Roselle strived her way to become the smartest in her class and learn all she could learn so that she can pass her college entrance exams even without cram schools. Because of financial difficulties, Roselle studies in the school library, asked for free tutorial services from her teachers and continued to study on her own while some of her classmates are in the luxury of enrolling in review centers. 

For her, education doesn’t equate a hefty amount. Moreover, if she were to choose, she would study in a public science high school rather than in a private high school wherein money is also a requirement. More than the prestige, Roselle knows that she can learn the best from the best if she enters her dream university. For her, this dream is hitting two birds in one stone---her admission to the university means her parents will not need to work too hard for her expenses. 

But all her efforts are not enough to measure if she can pass or not. She can only relax if a letter revealed that she’s officially qualified to admit in the university or not. But for Roselle, she only have one life to live, and she wants to live it studying in her dream university and be a scholar.

Slice of Life

Hello!

These past few days, I’ve been watching a lot of music videos and hearing new music that keeps me inspired on what to write for my next idea blog post.

In addition, I am also currently reading a Japanese Manga titled “Assassination Classroom.” 

It is about an Octopus-like creature who ate a big part of the moon who happens to be a teacher of a class that is tasked to kill him before the end of the year or else he’ll destroy the Earth. At first, the plot sounds serious and action-packed. But upon reading it (you’ll never notice the time once you started a chapter), there’s the element of comedy, action and slice of life.

And then I came to a realization, I am inclined to the slice of life kind of stories and ideas. I love reading memoirs and most of my stories are the typical ones. To be honest, I’ve been recently questioning myself if my creative or thinking ability is poor because some of the people I know who are also required to have this kind of activity seem to have deep and complex ideas while here I am, writing about a girl who works in a coffee shop, and other cutesy or normal stuff.

I know I should not compare myself to others and each person has their own “forte” or distinctiveness. Maybe for me, my forte is writing slice of life stories. I guess what I am aiming for is realness and simplicity that’s why I opt these kinds of story. But I hope that as I think of more ideas, I’ll not only grow as a person but I’ll also grow as a creative “writer”.

So setting this thought aside, I’ll share to you another slice of life story that is inspired of what I’ve been up to these days:

TEACHER TROUBLE

When I was a kid, I thought that my teacher is a superhero. She taught me how to read the alphabet, count numbers, know the colors of the rainbow and learn how to make friends with others.

A woman like no other, my teacher is definitely my idol! And because of that, I vowed to myself that one day, I will be like here too---inspiring, caring and heroic.

“Miss Diaz, your students are misbehaving again! How many times do I have to tell you, if there’s no other method than to punish them then---“

“Shhhh, Mr. Principal. I got this.”

“Aghhhh Maam! I’m sorryyyyy!”

“AND WHO TOLD YOU TO PRANK THE SUPERVISOR HUH!? WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU STUPID BRAT, IF YOU’RE GONNA DO MISCHIEF THEN DO IT WELL.”

“I’m sorry, Maam”

“It’s okay. Next time, place a cockroach on his desk. He totally hates it.”

Jenny is not the ordinary sweet, caring, inspirational teacher. More often, she’s the leader of chaos in her home-room classroom. Regretting the vow she made years ago because of a traumatic experience in high school, Jenny is now a high school teacher teaching Language. 

Her methods of teaching and approach to students is definitely one of its kind. She tags along with her students' pranks and jokes. Originally, Jenny now lives her dream…but she never thought it will not be as glorious as she had expected. Her preparatory teacher, her idol, looked so flawless while doing her job...but Jenny cannot even silence her students in class. Frustrated and shocked, Jenny turned into a teacher she never wanted to be---like the one who failed her during high school and tarnished her reputation.

Now, the things that Jenny could think of are: how to live with her small salary, how to survive the daily battlefield aka school, how to have a boyfriend who will not underestimate her and how to love a job that isn’t lovely and glittery at all. 

With her class, Jenny will realize that teaching may not be the glitz and glamour nor the beauty and bread, but the satisfaction of seeing the students triumph because of a teacher’s guidance is what makes her profession the most heartfelt one and that even the teachers can learn from their students.

To me, there are some parts that are still not that clear so I'll try to update this once I come up with an idea. For now, I'll post this one so I won't forget the story and I just read 5 chapters of nothing but Korosensei. hahaha

I am back with a new idea in mind. This is actually a synopsis about a girl who's searching for her identity. I know this sounds cliché but unlike other stories wherein the girl is hurt by the circumstances, the girl in this story is optimistic, brave and values the importance and gift given by forgiveness.

SYNOPSIS:

Christine is from a broken family.

She was 8 when her mom flew away from home to live with her new boyfriend while her dad shuffles from one woman to another months after her mom left.

She was so young back then that she doesn't know how terrible the situation was. Poor Christine grew up in the hands of her caring but strict aunt, Maria. Her aunt provided all of her needs and as a single woman, Maria showered all her motherly love to Christine.

But now that Christine is 18 years old, she wants to know where her parent’s whereabouts are. She’s going to college, with a full scholarship but with an empty feeling inside. Yes, she loves Aunt Maria so much but she will always remember her parents.

Are they still alive?

Do they live a normal life?

Do they remember their only child?

Christine has a lot of questions that Maria couldn't answer.

With only bitter memories left to her as a clue, will Christine ever find the answers she’s looking for?

She’s willing to give them a second chance to redeem their selves as her parents and she’s ready to discover the present, forget the past and build her future.

Story:

One coffee shop, one staff---a hundred events go by.

Aileen has been working in a popular cute-themed coffee shop downtown for almost two years. Every day, young couples would visit the café for their after-school dates. Aileen has seen all the romantic, cute and even steamy scenes her customers do at the place. Aside from that, she also saw many heart breaking break ups and events in what supposedly to be a sweet haven.

The café is always crowded with couples…

And in the middle of the lovey-dovey crowd, Aileen is the only one without a partner.

This is a story about a single girl who see other lives, love and hate pass by on a daily basis over a steaming cup of coffee, whiff of fresh brews and heart-covered walls secretly contemplating if she’ll ever experience her own taste of love in a café with a table for two.

(this song is titled Caramel Coffee/Talk to Me by SNSD. I love how sweet sounding this song is...and when I was thinking of this story, I immediately thought of this song)

A Mother’s Pride

Hello everyone!

I am back with a new idea in mind.

Last Monday (November 30) was a Holiday so I was stuck at home doing the dishes, reading my notes and other random stuff.

I was cleaning my parent’s room when I saw my mom’s photo album. I’ve seen the photos way too many times when I was a kid but never thought of copying my mom’s teenage years treasured in those photographs. The thing is, the album is full of my mom’s beauty pageant glory days.

YES. MY MOM IS A BEAUTY PAGEANT CANDIDATE STAPLE IN HER PROVINCE...

And honestly, I think I’m the opposite of my mom. Looking at the photos, my mom has a perfect set of pearly whites, slim figure and sophisticated stature

while I’m here…in my very awkward puberty stage: READING GLASSES, BRACES and ZITS.

It’s not that I don’t like how I look. Of course, I know that this is just a phase (I hope so) and I have plenty of reasons to be thankful for the life I have right now. It’s just that I’m wondering if my mom ever expected me to be like her during her teens…Anyway, I know she’s proud of me no matter what and I am very proud to have her too.

If I were given the chance to write or conceptualize for a short film, this would be my idea:

One day when de-cluttering her room, a woman in her 50’s chanced upon her treasure box and saw her photos when she was a teen. The photos showed her glory days as a sought-after actress. She reminisced the time when she was modelling, acting and living a luxurious life. During those years, she said to herself that she wishes her future daughter to continue her legacy as an actress.

On the other hand, her daughter, a 20-something year old woman, is working in Media. But instead of working in front of the camera, she’s working behind the scenes as a director. She even said to herself that she will not be pressured of becoming an actress despite her mother's wish and will work her way to the top to live up her own name and mark in the industry.

Same field but different goal…will both ends meet?

Can their separate wishes bring one pride, love and glory?

ASPIRATIONS, FRUSTRATIONS AND FICTIONS

Well, hello there!

Thank you for reading my third blog post! 

So I just realized that most of the ideas I have in my mind right now are about aspirations. Maybe it’s because I have too many aspirations (and frustrations) in life that I want to pursue (or if I can’t, I want to make a story out of it…just to compensate for my frustration. Lol). 

Anyway, the following stories are NOT exactly my personal aspirations. The germ or main idea of it came from my aspirations, frustrations, influences and experiences and the rest are just a product of self-brainstorming:

A teenager wanting to be a piano master.

(We all know that it’s too late for a teenager to be a piano master. I mean, usually, kids are trained at a very early age so that by the time they grow older, they already achieved or went beyond the Mastery level. So I want a story about a teenager who is very eager to prove to everybody that it’s not too late to pursue his dream for the longest time.)

A cross-cultural friendship.

(Okay. So this is one of my daydreams. HAHA. Sometimes, I want to imagine myself at the first day of school and someone, a foreign student, will enter the room and will be seating at the farthest seat possible. *cliché* 

Then, it turns out that I am the only one who can speak the language of my new classmate’s mother tongue so I will be his/her companion in learning to adapt to the new environment. Then later on, we will exchange information and experience each other’s customs, culture, beliefs and etc. The story will focus on the exchange and beauty of each other’s culture…

A Transformation Story.

(This is a story about a girl who used to be bullied because of her weight. Several years passed and she’s already in college…with a svelte figure to boot. She made plans to meet up with some of her former classmates to show off her new image. She manages to make her guy bullies fall for her and her girl bullies envy her…and everybody seems to love her new look. And one day, she herself became the bully without realizing it…Is it all worth the change?) 

All I can say is…I still need to improve. A lot. Haha.
