Title: Middle Child

Format: Short Film

Language: Filipino, English

Story:

taken from the internet

Mica is the middle child in her family. Her brother is a popular whiz student who excels in Academics while her younger sister is best known for her superb dancing and singing skills. While her two siblings have distinct talents, Mica feels like she was the loser---the child who doesn’t have any talents.

School festival week is approaching and Mica’s siblings are busy for their own activities. She, on the other hand, went to a vacant room to get some nap. It also happened that a young man entered a room. He doesn’t look the prim and proper type yet not the delinquent one but there’s something in him that suggests he’s somewhat spunky. He woke up Mica and offered her to join him to an interesting place where they will never get bored. Mica was curious that she agreed and joined the guy...

It was already night time and Mica isn’t home yet. Her parents are worried about her because she’s not answering any phone calls or texts. They feared that Mica may have been kidnapped or what. They called Mica’s classmates but was unfortunate to get any lead on their daughter’s whereabouts. The family and Mica’s school were worried that they ordered the police to track the young girl. With this, they got an information that Mica left the school with a guy and headed to somewhere far from the school.

Immediately, Mica’s family together with the police, went to the alleged location. They were all curious on why the information lead them to a decent coffee shop. They entered the store and heard a familiar voice…

Mica was reciting a poetry she and her new found friend, Kevin made a while ago. Kevin is a student and part-time spoken poetry artist at the shop. Earlier at school, he was finding a quiet place to get some rest when he saw Mica. He knew she was the sibling of the two most popular school in their class and that she’s the most pressured one---so he felt the urge to help her release her pain, fears and hopes thru poetry.

Mica finished the piece with tears in her eyes. Her parents and siblings are shocked too. They didn’t know that Mica was struggling all along. Mica thanked and hugged Kevin before leaving the shop and went inside the car

---a signal that the lost middle child is ready to go home.
